Occupella PDX will convene a “curbside chorus” at this march. We will start off just outside the park. If people have the energy and transportation, we will move to another location along the route, probably near MLK, after the last of the marchers passes us.
I will arrive around 5pm to set up and talk to the organizer. Then we’ll go over some of the more unfamiliar songs, then start singing “for real.” Attached please find a song sheet with chords and a chant sheet that you can print or call up on your mobile device.
March steps off at north end of Alberta Park. It will take place on Ainsworth and end at Peninsula Park. Masks and social distancing highly encouraged.
About singing with Occupella – Singing and shouting (chants) cause virus particles to travel much greater distances than normal breathing. Therefore, you must wear a mask. I tried several types at a demo yesterday, and the only one that stayed put over time was a bandana.
You do not have to be a good singer, or even a singer at all, to join us. You can hold signs, give out songsheets, chant with us, engage with marchers passing by.
I will have my bass and battery-powered amp and a bag of rhythm instruments. Please bring guitars, ukes, battery-powered megaphones and mics, rhythm instruments. Don’t forget water, sun protection, comfy shoes, a folding chair if you think you’ll need it. Depending on the size of the march, we may be there and/or in the second location for some time.
